There is something adorable about Hong Kong cheese. The film stars Shu Qi (The Transporter, The Eye 2), famous for getting her start in soft porn before going on to become an award-winning actress. At 32, she’s made over 60 films. Damn, those Chinese know how to work it!

KUNG FU PANDA is a pretty good animated film from Dreamworks. My kids enjoyed it a lot – Tay, who joins me on the podcast, gave it a nine-and-a-half out of ten. I enjoyed it as well – especially Ian McShane (aka the aptly-named Al Swearengen from DEADWOOD) as the evil Tai Lung – and it’s got a good message for the kiddies, as most of these films do.

RETURNER is a terrific 2002 Japanese film I caught on DVD during the week. It’s part-Hong Kong triad film, part-Matrix, part-Terminator, and part-Transformers. Lots of fun and cool scenes, definitely check it out!

Robert De Niro’s second time out as director hasn’t had the most warm reviews of his career but I really enjoyed the film. A great cast (Matt Damon, Angelina Jolie, Wiliam Hurt, Robert De Niro, John Turturro, Joe Pesci) and a great script by Eric Roth (Munich, Forrest Gump… okay, forget I mentioned that bit) and a fascinating subject matter (the rise of the CIA) are just a few things this film has going for it.

On this podcast I talk about the film and also reveal a little of the backstory (Allen Dulles, the Bay of Pigs, etc) behind the film, which is actually only a fictional account of the CIA.

I give the film 4 out of 5.

“Roads? Where we’re going, we don’t need roads.”

I recently pulled out Bob Zemeckis’ 1985 classic “Back To The Future” to show my kids. They were reluctant at first but really got into it and it was a joy to watch their tiny minds being dazzled by the concept of time travel. So I did some research about the film and thought I’d share some of the highlights with you.

On the show you will discover:

Who was first cast to play Marty McFly, and shot a whole month of footage, before being sacked and replaced with Michael J Fox?

Which dumb-ass studio executive wanted to call the film “Spaceman From Pluto” because he didn’t think anyone would want to see a film with the word “future” in the title?

Did John De Lorean really get busted for cocaine trafficking?

And a whole lot more.

Of course the most interesting question is – What if Michael J Fox had had a real time machine back in 1985 and could have jumped 20 years to see his own real future?? Would he have still made “Doc Hollywood”?

My man Daniel Craig… no I mean Daniel Krause aka Dark Meat aka Ladies Love Dark M joins me on the podcast today to talk about CASINO ROYALE aka James Bond 21.

It’s a long one – an hour and twenty! Almost as long as the film itself and we didn’t spend anywhere NEAR the $150 million they did.

On the show we talk about our reactions to the film, the production costs and current box office returns, the plot, Daniel Craig, Eva Green, Mads Mikkelsen, Caterina Murino, Sir Richard Branson, the producers, the screenwriters, parkour… hell we just don’t know when to quit!

I hope you enjoy it (and live long enough to get to the end).

Oh by the way, at the end, during a short rant about Melbourne boy Eric Bana, I talk a little about his film CHOPPER. If you haven’t seen it, here’s the trailer. Hope it wets your appetite.
