The Movie Show #27 – GOOD NIGHT & GOOD LUCK

The Movie Show #27 (MP3 – 15MB – 43min)

LISTEN TO THE PODCAST HERE

I went to see GOOD NIGHT & GOOD LUCK tonight with my mate Michael Sewards and then we had a few beers and chatted about it afterwards. Yet again I feel the Section Eight / 2929 team, this time with the added money of Ebay Employee #001 Jeff Skoll, have knocked it out of the park. George Clooney has put together a brilliant cast, co-written an inspiring screenplay, and directed a tight, observant film that deserves all the accolades it has been getting. Let’s see… the guy has money, talent, looks, he’s as smooth as hell… how is this possible? Where are his demons? Anyway… go see it.

Mick and I also chatted about some of our other favourite films, including:

    THE HITCHER
    GET CARTER

and what a disgrace Sam Jackon’s career has been outside of the films he’s made with QT.

First of all Fuck you for your condescending remarks concerning (Ewan’s ‘accent’ here) A-MERRY-CANS and Dr. Who in episode, #24, I believe. Ewan tells us to go fuck off and have a coffee for five mintues while you discuss Dr. Who. You’re lucky if any A-MERRY-CANS even listen to your podcast, even though most of the media you watch and review is from America. With Cameron and his fucking grating in the mic to punctuate his ‘witty’ remarks (fucking more likely to puncture a hole in someone’s earhole on of these days.) I can imagine that nasty habit of Cam’s turned many listeners away(kept me away for a month or so), and that patronizing attitude just might lose you the rest of us.

First of all, Dr. Who as very popular here in America on PBS, and if any A-MERRY-CANS are nerdy enough to listen to this obscure clusterfuck of a show, then
we definitely know what the fuck Dr. Who is, and even though we don’t get the new ones here in the states yet, we also know the current state of the Doctor Who franchise to keep up with that review on the doctor who Christmas Special . Besides, if we want to see The Doctor Who Christmas special, we can. We get everything here in the states, asshole. Too bad you Brits or Aussies -or whatever the fuck you are- even have to wait to see our blockbusters.

You make fun of the yank’s enunciation of the english language, but most Americans speak english perfectly…You Brits and White Aussies’-whose native language is english, speak it with an accent. WTF? It’s your native language! Your people INVENTED english! And yet you speak it with an accent. Again…WHAT THE FUCK IS UP WITH THAT?

Okay, a comment. I haven’t listened to this week’s show yet, but I saw in the show details that you will mention ‘The Hitcher’. Ewan, you seemed interested in the Lorraine Bracco/Harvey Kietel fiasco, so you may You may find this article, about the screenwriter of ‘The Hitcher’ & ‘Near Dark’, Eric Red, to be interesting:

I saw this just before Christmas (by myself as the missus didn’t want to see it) and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I think David Strathairn is fantastic, and Clooney’s direction just beautiful. The intergration of the stock archival footage mixed with the film seamlessly.

It is overly preachy, and Clooney in no way tries to hide his own personal politcal views, but it does serve to provoke thought, what any good film should do.

I’m currently comparing it in my mind to Munich, which i saw on friday. Spielberg also manages to provoke thought in his latest film, but unlike Clooney provokes lots of different arguments. And they both do it in a highly effective manner.

I’m looking forward to seeing Syriana now for the same reasons.

  5. Cameron Reilly Says:

gee Tim, you yanks take yourselves mightily seriously, don’t you? No sense of humour? And it’s me who mentioned the Bracco love triangle, and me who mentions the Hitcher. You can’t even tell an Aussie accent from a Scottish accent? That explains a lot.

  6. Ross Chapman Says:

hang on here. You’re Australian Cam? i thought you were from Southern Mozambique. Now those accents are hard to pick from Scottish.

  7. Cameron Reilly Says:

yeah I can see the confusion there, Ross. The Australian people and the people of Southern Mozambique do, in fact, have a lot in common (as you well know). For example:

Mozambique’s first inhabitants were San hunters and gatherers, ancestors of the Khoisani peoples. Between the first and fourth centuries AD, waves of Bantu-speaking peoples migrated from the north through the Zambezi River valley and then gradually into the plateau and coastal areas. The Bantu were farmers and ironworkers.

Whereas, The first human habitation of Australia is estimated to have occurred between 42,000 and 48,000 years ago. The first Australians were the ancestors of the current Indigenous Australians; they arrived via land bridges and short sea-crossings from present-day Southeast Asia. Most of these people were hunter-gatherers, with a complex oral culture and spiritual values based on reverence for the land and a belief in the Dreamtime. The Torres Strait Islanders, ethnically Melanesian, inhabited the Torres Strait Islands and parts of far-north Queensland; they possess distinct cultural practices from the Aborigines.

So, you see, it’s all starting to make sense.

(bullshit about Mozambique and Australia courtesy Wikipedia).

  8. BOONY Says:

Holy shit, dude you are really crazy, mate Australia did not invent the english language we developed our own accent due to the mix of Irish, Scottish and English people who populated the colony. See we and the English have an accent to YOU because it is differentto the way you speak. Trust me the rolling of the R thing is mighty loud and annoying so FUCK YOU AND FUCK YOUR UNEDUCATED BULLSHIT
