The Movie Show #17 - LOST IN LA MANCHA, MYSTERY MEN

The Movie Show #17 (MP3 - 19MB - 53min)

LISTEN TO THE PODCAST HERE

Welcome back to TPN MOVIES, the only PORN PODCAST in the world to feature NAKED SEXY HARDCORE BITCHES.

Ahhh, that’ll improve our googlerank no end.

Poor Terry Gilliam. You really have to feel sorry for the guy. The man is an undisputed genius, but he’s had a terrible run of luck. His ideas are too “out there” for Hollywood, but too high concept for smaller studios. If you haven’t seen LOST IN LA MANCHA, the 2002 documentary on the collapse of his film on DON QUIXOTE, you really must. It’s heartbreaking.

MYSTERY MEN, on the other hand, is a bit of a cult classic that came out in 1999. It was a dud at the box office, despite a stellar cast, including Ben Stiller, Geoffrey Rush, Hank Azaria, William H Macy, etc. Based on a comic book of the same name, the films tells the story of a bunch of third-rate superheroes. Definitely check it out.

My trailers of the week: A SCANNER DARKLY
THE ARISTOCRATS

ANd judge for yourself - is Ewan Spence really Terry Gilliam’s evil twin?

Oh, and by the way, this show was recorded using Skylook, the awesome cool plug-in for Microsoft Outlook, based in Melbourne Australia.

    Sorry Guys!

I don’t feel a lick of sorrow for Gilliam. For one, he is a cry baby. Sure he experienced incredibly bad physical luck (with the actor being out, set flooding etc.) but this happens in movies all the time. Why should I feel sorry for an established director when unknowns get stomped on all the time. Second, Gilliam is too much style and NOOOOO substance. Anyone seen Brother’s Grimm recently (stinker). I have suffered through most of his films and haven’t finished many because I am not impressed (yes, I turned off the heavily praised Brazil. . .so SUE ME!)

Third, and most important: Gilliam is self-important. He cares nothing for the rules and when it comes down to the tough shit, he whines, cries, yells, screams, and pouts. He wants to be controlling like Stanley Kurbick but Kubrick knew how to do it AND make great films to boot. Gilliam rushed the production, angered all the crew, ignored the producers, completely ignored his assistant directors, and was too busy playing with the toys to focus on the damn picture. If Lost In La Mancha proves anything, its that Gilliam is an overprivileged child with nothing to do but moan when he doesn’t get what he wants and take all the credit when he recieves praise. Yes, it was awful that his ‘dream’ was shattered by shotty location scouting, horrible weather reporting, and a rushed production, but hey, like some unknown out there, this happens all the time. Gilliam, if anything, will be sitting on his inherited millions from Monty Python. Its just a flesh wound Terry, get up and make eye sores again. . .you’ll make it.
