The Movie Show #13 - WAR OF THE WORLDS, CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY
The Movie Show #13 (MP3 - 19MB - 54min)
What more is there to say about WAR OF THE WORLDS that you haven’t all already said in the comments section of the review I did here?
Well LOTS! And Suw and I say it this week on the show.
Suw also tells us why Johnny Depp’s characterization of Willy Wonka in Tim Burton’s CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY is not, in fact, based on Michael Jackson.
Listen in at about the 30 minute mark as Suw puts me on hold…
Oh by the way, we recorded this show using the in-built recording features of GIZMO which saved the file as a scummy 8khz, so we won’t be trying that experiment again and sorry for the tinny sound.

I am seriously disappointed by the lack of knowledge shown in your review of the WAR OF THE WORLDS. WAR OF THE WORLDS is a classic sci-fi and the adaptation has also remarketably stayed true to the genre. Your gripe with the film seemed to stem from a lack of appreciation for sci-fi but you know, I like sci-fi and I liked this film!

well scifikid, thanks for the feedback, but I think you’ll find I’m not alone in my hatred of this film. Check out some of the other user feedback on my earlier review! I have no doubt the film is “true to the genre” but it’s also poorly executed, big budget Hollywood CRAP. I call ‘em as I see ‘em.

I agree with Cam…Spielberg was quoted in Entertainment Weekly or some entertainment magazine as saying that he (and I paraphrase) “didn’t like certain aspects of the book, so I took the core ideas and made it up”. I am being crude in the paraphrasing but truly that’s all I remember. This is Steven Spielberg’s War of the Worlds and since lately he has been making movies about airport terminals…it is HOLLYWOOD CRAP!
