The new Doctor Who quits

well… that didn’t take long…

Actor Christopher Eccleston has quit as Doctor Who after just one episode of the new series has been screened, the BBC has confirmed.

Well Ewan, what says you NOW sir?

My problem wasn’t with Eccleston as such. An actor can only work with the material he is given. Let’s hope the BBC producers see this as a sign to smarten up the show and make it a 21st century sci-fi show and not a sitcom.

I’m still with Ewan on this. I think Eccleston is/was an excellent addition to the lineage, and although the plot of “Rose” did stray a bit too close to farce occasionally, come on, it was their first episode in 16 years, you’ve got to expect a few rough edges.

I thought for the first episode it was good. I read that David Tennant was up for the role, I think he would be pretty good

Still I think they should bring Tom Baker back :)

What kind of crack are you guys smoking? Rose was a wonderful debut, full of heart and drama, and The End of the World was one of the single most affecting pieces of televised drama our screens have been blessed with. “Can only work with the material he’s given” - what kind of comment is that? Eccleston has been doing a wonderful job with wonderful material. The next 11 weeks are going to fly by too fast, too quickly.

    Fuck Tom Baker.

The man is old and bloated. Anyone who has a hardon for Baker needs to pull their TARDIS out of their ass and get used to the idea that Doctor Who is much bigger than your limited view will allow.

    No offence.

I am a new Doctor Who watcher and I personally feel the BBC has brought the show into the 21st Century ! Chris Eccleston is trully the Doctor and it’s sad to see him leave , he gave the show what it trully needed a timelord who travelled alone until he met Rose an british city girl who was literaly bored with her life like so many young people these days . So he showed her how to live even showed her death but, she in return showed him how to love and be human . His spunk and charisma really came through in his character as Doctor Who, no one can match this ninth doctor that is for sure! If Billie Piper leaves after only a few episodes then we really have to worry!

  5. Rose Says:

Billie Piper and Christopher Eccleston were (and still are) both fantastic. No one can tell me they aren’t, the first Episode “Rose” really brought Doctor Who into the 21st century by making Rose equal to the Doctor and helping us see things through her eyes. I’ve had enough of this sexist crap where girls run around screaming “Doctor, help me!” it’s time we had some real drama. And the new Doctor Who is bringing it!
